Barber Dodge
- Since its inception in 1986 (as the Barber Saab Pro Series), Barber
Dodge has earned the reputation as America's premier international talent
showcase for open-wheel drivers. Many consider Barber Dodge the most effective
career track for up-and-coming professionals. The new partnership with
Dodge a bigger, more powerful motor, the 3.5-1 Liter, SOHC, 24-valve V-6
now motivates each Barber Dodge will serve to elevate its status even more.
-
- When Skip Barber began racing professionally, he discovered one of
motor sports' most stubborn facts-money buys speed. A driver could be quite
fast, even possess great talent, but still lose races to marginal drivers
who had better equipment and larger racing budgets.
-
- From this experience the Barber Dodge concept was created: assemble
an affordable but highly visible professional race series comprised of
identically prepared and maintained open-wheel cars. A pro series where
talent, not money, is all that separates the best from the rest.
-
- The Skip Barber organization owns and operates the Pro Series-only
the Dodge True Value IROC Championship is run in a similar fashion. Barber
Dodge is sanctioned by Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Pro Racing and
all Barber Dodge races are classified by the Federation International de
['Automobile (FIA) as Full International Events.
-
- In a nutshell, the Barber Dodge race team prepares and maintains up
to 30 identical, equal horsepower, single seat formula cars, each powered
by a sophisticated and reliable stock Dodge V-6 engine. Drivers pay a per-race
fee of $8,000, with a chance of taking home $10,000 for a win. The series
is completely self-contained-four tractor trailers that haul everything:
cars, parts and equipment.
