PAUL EDWARDS

Photo Gallery 7

A small note from Jim O'Bryan (RfA)

Will there be a gallery eight? Who knows at this point. Even though Paul Edwards has won in every international series he has ever driven in, he is in the middle of a terrible cash flow crisis. With his huge accident at Spa, it put an underfunded winning effort further in debt.

Will Paul become yet another forgotten American, as he proudly carries the our flag to the top of the victory rostrum in Europe. Or will he become the next Dan Gurney, or Phil Hill. Well at this point it looks like corporate America is still very myopic.

Is the adventurer in all of America dead? I understand the need for so many companies to dive into NASCAR. But where is the romance? Where is the glamour? Right now, today for the cost of one bad entree (like Swedish Meatballs) at your race weekend gatherings, you could save the career of one of America's best.

So do you eat bad food, or be the first one to climb Mt. Everest? Do you fall into the sea of stickers, or stand out as the company willing to back an American trying to do something every bit as hard and glamourous as flying around the world in a ballon? Let's be honest we all know for at least the next three years, an American will win every NASCAR, BGN, NHRA, IHRA race held. But who will be the FIRST American to win the Formula Opel Championship? the Macau GP? the British Formula 3 Championship? Formula 3000? and be the next Formula One Champion?

If the funds can be found, I'm willing to bet it all on Paul.
