- American standout Paul Edwards continued to set the pace yesterday
in testing for this year's Euro Formula Palmer Audi Championship.
Testing on the Brandís Hatch Indy Circuit, Edwards posted a fast
time of 43.5 seconds to finish 0.1 second quicker than second
place Derek Hayes. It was the third testing session in which Edwards
topped the time sheets, but the first in which he remained there
at day's end.
- While testing isn't a race, it is always good to finish first,
especially when everyone is in an equal car, related the 1999
Formula Palmer Audi Winter Series Champion. "Testing started two
weeks ago and I have been the fastest driver during each session,
but I havenít finished first until yesterday. My strategy is to
protect my tire supply by stopping once I find a good balance
on the car. Yesterday, I maintained the same strategy and only
did half the day, but my time was good enough to withstand the
competition."
-
- The Euro Formula Palmer Audi season kicks-off April 2nd at Donnington
Park and Edwards is confident for his championship prospects.
"For sure it is difficult to predict what will happen over the
twenty races, but I think I am well-positioned to win the Championship.
The key will be to maintain a consistent top five performance
while knowing how to keep a cool head and setting the appropriate
objectives when things donít go as planned."
-
- Edwards who is sponsored by Doug Mockett and Company, a high-end
retailer of architectural hardware, is committed to giving his
best. "This year I am giving 100% just as I always have. Everyday
I spend two hours in the gym and my entire life is focused on
racing. Being a professional racecar driver is a privilege, but
it is also something you earn and I intend to earn my place at
the top. "
-
- "I would like to thank everyone for their support: Doug Mockett, Jonathan Palmer, Jeremy Shaw, Speedvision and all my personal advisors. Without their help, I wouldn't
be racing this year. Now I have straight forward task of winning
races and completing my sponsorship package so that I can win
the Title and prepare for 2001."
